Accessible Text Book & Course Reader List

Introduction

Welcome to the DRC list of accessible textbooks and course readers. This web page has been developed to assist faculty as they prepare to develop their list of textbooks and course readers. It is by no means a full list of the books and course readers used on campus, but growing each semester as we convert books from print to digital format and receive digital books from publishers. The California State University System (CSU) is also in the process of developing an effective means to share accessible textbooks among all the campuses which would then greatly expand this list.

The list will be updated every month so please come back and continue to search the list. If you have questions contact Eric Christierson at eric@drc.sjsu.edu or Marty Schulter marty@drc.sjsu.edu.

Why are we doing all of this?

The CSU began the Accessible Technology Initiative (ATI) in 2006 in order to comply with the Section 508, now a state law mandating accessibility in electronic and information technology http://www.sjsu.edu/accessibility/ .

On December 10, 2007 the Academic Senate passed a new policy addressing timely adoption of textbooks, course readers and library reserves. Access to Instructional Materials:  Timely Identification of Textbooks, Course Readers and Library Reserves (Academic Senate Policy, PDF).

The list below is updated each month from the AMC database and converted to an excel file for your use.  You can search a book either by title, author, publisher or ISBN number. If you enter the title, ISBN and or author, and do not do not find your book we probably do not have it in our list. You can always email Eric (eric@drc.sjsu.edu) to see if he can find your book on one of the nationwide exchanges.
