Hours

  • For current ATC lab hours, please visit the open lab hours page.  Scheduled ATC hours will be maintained as best as possible, but due to circumstances out of our control, there will be times when the lab may have to close due to lack of staff, emergency closures, or other circumstances.
  • We will try to post closures as best we can, but at times there may be no way to post an emergency closure.  We ask you that please have patience during these times.
  • ATC hours are subject to change without prior notice.

Check in and Check out NEW!

  • In order to gather and maintain an accurate ATC usage data, a laser scanner is stationed at the front desk for DRC students to check in and check out. Every ATC user should scan his/her SJSU ID (tower card) barcode through the laser scanner  when entering and leaving the ATC. It's very simple to use. Just aim the student barcode on the laser line which will automatically scan and transmit the data to our server. If you encounter any problem or need some help, don't hesitate to ask our ATC support specialist or other ATC staff for assistance.

Orientation & Re-orientation

  • New Students - New students are required to go through a 15-20 minute orientation with ATC staff in order to be allowed access to the ATC lab.  Orientation allows the student to learn about the policies and procedures of the ATC, familiarize oneself with resources available, and obtain a username and password necessary for computer log-in.

  • Returning Students - Before the start of every semester, existing ATC student accounts expire and, thus, do not allow students to log-in any computer.  Please check the Updates page to see upcoming account expiration dates Students will not be able to access their accounts until a brief 10-minute re-orientation is completed with ATC staff.  Re-orientation is a time where ATC staff will inform you of any changes in lab policy/procedure.  It is also an ideal time to go over any questions you might have.

Lab Etiquette

  • RESPECT OTHERS' NEEDS FOR QUIET.
  • If you will be leaving the lab for more than 15 minutes, DO NOT LEAVE YOUR BELONGINGS IN THE LAB.  The ATC is not responsible for lost or stolen belongings.  Leaving your belongings on desks and the floor may impair accessibility as well as not allow others to use various workstations.  Please take all of your things with you when you leave.
  • Use of the lab (computers, Internet) is for ACADEMIC PURPOSES.
  • Student users of the ATC will be asked to exit the ATC for all un-staffed time periods.  Failure to comply may involve loss of ATC usage privileges for the rest of the semester.
  • When a student has an assignment due, he/she should plan well ahead and spend at least three hours in open lab to review word processing and/or other assistive application commands.
  • No tutoring is allowed in the ATC.
  • Food and Drink

    • No food or drink is permitted inside the ATC.

    • Water containers may be left at the designated table near the front desk and accessed there as needed.

    • Students who are using voice recognition software are the ONLY exception to drinking water while near equipment.  For students using voice recognition software who require water, water bottles must be kept on the floor with the cap on when not in use.

  • Cell Phone Use

    • Cell phones must be kept OFF OR ON SILENT upon entering the ATC because they are disruptive to students working in the lab.  If a call needs to be made or accepted, please go outside the lab to make/receive a call.

Printing

  • Effective May 27, 2008, ATC no longer provides open lab printing for DRC students. Our ATC mission is to:
“…provide one-on-one and small group training on adaptive computers and specialized software. Students and employees referred for training learn to utilize adaptive technology and subsequently mainstream to PC labs throughout the campus where the same adaptations are provided, insuring equal access.”
The change has occurred in order to realign the work of the full time staff and student assistants as well as address budget concerns.

  • There are numerous resources available on and off campus for all students, a few of which are listed:

Additionally, you may ask a librarian at the reference desk at MLK library or a technician at the AS Print Shop for any on-site printing assistance.

NOTE: PRINTING SERVICES ARE NOT REQUIRED ACCOMMODATIONS UNDER BOTH STATE AND FEDERAL LAWS FOR STUDENTS WITH DISABILITIES AT SAN JOSE STATE UNIVERSITY.

It is the responsibility of students who are downloading or uploading documents to make certain that they are not copyrighted works, or that the student has the permission of the copyright holder. The University Counsel will be notified if they receive a subpoena from RIAA for information about students (or others) who may have engaged in unauthorized P2P file sharing .
  • Do not copy software from the hard drives; all applications are copyrighted, and it is illegal.
