The Annual Awards Recognition Program & Gala Scholarship Fundraiser

The Disability Resource Center hosts an annual Recognition Awards Program & Gala Scholarship Fundraiser, an event filled with food, fun, and festivities, during the spring of each year.  The event awards students, faculty, staff, and/or alumni who have contributed to the disabled community at San José State University (SJSU) in the following categories:

Donna Ellis Outstanding Student Award & Scholarship

This award recognizes a San José State University student with a disability who has demonstrated outstanding academic achievement as well as significant extracurricular campus and/or community participation.

Outstanding Student Leadership Award & Scholarship

This award recognizes a San José State University student who may or may not have a disability.  He or she has contributed outstanding effort to promote campus or community awareness of the needs of persons with disabilities and has helped to eliminate environmental, attitudinal, and/or other educational barriers.

Outstanding Alumnus Award

This award recognizes a San José State University alumnus with a disability. He or she has demonstrated outstanding achievement in the community which may, or may not, include paid employment.

Outstanding Staff Award

This award recognizes a San José State University administrator or staff member who has provided exceptional assistance to students with disabilities and who has contributed to full participation for such students on campus.

Outstanding Faculty Award

This award recognizes a San José State University faculty member who has been responsive to the needs of students with disabilities and who has successfully created an academic environment that provides equal opportunity and encouragement for students with disabilities.
