b.      If you are only missing the foreign language requirement and have a learning disability affecting these skills, have your high school counselor submit a letter stating this requirement was waived due to a learning disability.  Also, this letter needs to state what college preparation courses were taken in lieu of the foreign language requirement.  Mail this letter at the time you apply and you won’t need to go through the Exceptional Admission Committee procedure.  Make sure your social security number or SJSU ID number is included.  The mailing address is:

7.      Tip:  remember to put your Social Security number or your SJSU ID number on everything you submit to be placed in your admission file.

8.      The special admissions process takes place in the Enrollment Services department where the Director of Admissions appoints a committee that meets regularly each fall and spring semesters to review the applicants for exceptional admission slots.  The Committee looks for evidence indicating how this student could academically succeed at SJSU.  The Committee takes many things into consideration when making their decision.  Being registered with the Disability Resource Center at SJSU is just one of many considerations.

9.      If you are missing English or Math coursework, you will need to demonstrate your proficiency with SAT or ACT verbal and math scores.  The minimum SAT verbal or math score is 550; for ACT the minimum verbal is 24 and for math, 23.  These minimum scores will exempt you from taking the English Placement Exam (EPT) and the Entry Level Math (ELM) placement tests.

10. All applicants requesting review from the Exceptional Admissions Committee must have a 2.50 grade point average from high school.  All grades earned in approved college preparatory courses (course work in Social Science, English, Mathematics, Science with lab, Foreign Language, Visual and Performing Arts) taken in 10th through 12th grades are used to calculate this gpa.

11. If you do not meet the minimum requirements listed in item 9 and 10 above, your appeal may be reviewed by a higher committee if you have additional documents/information that need to be considered.  You will receive information regarding this appeal if warranted by the Exceptional Admission Committee.
