UNDERGRADUATE TRANSFER GUIDELINES FOR EXCEPTIONAL ADMISSION COMMITTEE REVIEW AT SJSU
1. Submit on-line application by the filing deadline (www.csumentor.edu). With the on-line application all the four basic skills course information must be in place before the application can be submitted. Therefore, if you are missing any of these requirements do a “fill in” course. For the Institution field choose the school you are currently or last attended. Under Department Course Number put in a course you have attended or have in progress, for Course Title type in “requesting special admissions”. For the Term field choose a term you have already completed. Put in a Unit value and a “C” in the Grade field. 2. Submit official documents to Enrollment Services to complete your application a. For upper division transfers (at least 60 transferable semester units or 90 quarter units) you will need: all college transcripts and any work in progress. b. For lower division transfers ( with less than 60 transferable semester units or 90 quarter units) you will need:
3. Submit disability documentation to the Disability Resource Center (ADM 110) during a prospective student information appointment or via fax (408.924.5999) 4. Write a personal statement outlining your educational/career goals and any extenuating circumstances you may have related to your academic standing. All students should demonstrate the potential and motivation to succeed at SJSU. This must be typed and approximately 2 pages in length. The Exceptional Admissions Committee appreciates personal statements that are proofread and edited for conciseness. 5. Obtain 2 letters of recommendation from teachers, academic advisors, or counselors. Those people who can attest to your academic skills. 6. Submit your personal statement and letters of recommendation to the Student Services Center – Enrollment Services. Tip: remember to put your Social Security number or your SJSU ID number on everything you submit to be placed in your admission file. 8. The special admissions process takes place in the Enrollment Services department where the Director of Admissions appoints a committee that meets regularly each fall and spring semesters to review the applicants for exceptional admission slots. The Committee looks for evidence indicating how you could academically succeed at SJSU. The Committee takes many things into consideration when making their decision. Being registered with the Disability Resource Center (DRC) at SJSU is just one of many considerations. 9. All applicants are required to have a minimum of a 2.00 college gpa and proficiency in English and Math. If you are missing these minimum requirements, you may appeal to a higher committee with additional documentation/information. You will receive information regarding this appeal if warranted by the Exceptional Admission Committee.
