Notetaker Services

Students requesting the services of a Notetaker are required to be registered with the Disability Resource Center.

Students must meet with a DRC Coordinator each semester the service is needed.

Students are responsible for notifying their professors regarding the need for a notetaker. It is recommended that students meet with the professor during the professor's office hours to inform him/her about the need for a notetaker and to present the DRC Notetaker Request Form.

Notetakers must complete the Notetaker Orientation Packet and return it to the DRC in order to receive priority registration for the following semester. White forms are to be completed by the notetaker and must be turned in immediately, the signed goldenrod form, which requires the DRC student's signature, is to be turned in by the stated deadline. Orientation packets can be obtained by either the notetaker or the DRC student in the DRC.

If a notetaker is not acquired after two attempts by the professor, it is the student's responsibility to inform a DRC Coordinator to request assistance in using other means to obtain a notetaker.

The DRC provides NCR paper (carbonless paper), to assist with the service and to ensure the exchange of notes directly at the end of the class session. Any other arrangements for note exchange are between the student and the notetaker. Either the DRC student or the notertaker can obtain NCR paper in the DRC.

It is the student's responsibility to speak with the notetaker if there is a problem with the notertaker or the notetaker's notes. If a resolution is not found, the student can dismiss the notetaker and acquire a new notetaker.

Copy cards are issued to notetakers taking notes for two or more DRC students in a class. Either the student or notetaker can check out the card. A one-time replacement card will be issued to the notetaker/student at no charge for a lost copy card; however, subsequent losses will be charged.

It is mandatory that students using notetakers attend all class sessions. Notetakers are not to be considered as a substitution for the student's attendance.

A student who is unable to attend a class due to a disability related reason or emergency, or for an extended period of time, must notify the notetaker. If the notetaker is not notified of the absence, the notetaker is not required to take notes. Students and notetakers should exchange phone numbers / e-mail addresses for purposes of communication.

All notetakers receive priority registration as compensation for notetaking services. Should another means of compensation be necessary, the decision is made on a case- by-case basis by a DRC Coordinator or the Director.

The Disability Resource Center reserves the right to discontinue Notetaker services if any of the above policies, or any combination of the above policies is violated or abused.
