Academic AdvisementThe Disability Resource Center has two full-time Academic Advisors offering GE advisement. Students may also use the Student Advising Center in the Student Services Center. Students wishing academic advisement for general education, change of major or possible course substitutions must observe the following procedure: (NOTE: Medical or appropriate professional verification such as learning disabilities assessments are required before services can be provided.) In order to do accurate advisement, it is necessary to have copies of academic records. Please bring in copies of any transfer work or test scores you have not already submitted to SJSU.
All major advisement must be
provided by advisors in the
Major
departments.
- DRC interfaces with faculty advisors and acts as a resource as needed. - Assistance in choosing classes before semester Registration will be furnished; however, appointments must be made well in advance of your online enrollment period. * General Advisement: Information for StudentsAcademic Forms are maintained by the Office of the Registrar, please review the petition forms before meeting with an advisor. Students inquiring about petitions to disregard test results and/or to approve course substitutions must make appointments far enough in advance of registration dates that records can be obtained and petitions can be processed in time for course selection. At least a month in advance is recommended. Graduation applications should be completed one year before anticipated graduation. Appointments for graduation advisement should be made with this time frame in mind. EPT/ELM : All Freshmen not otherwise exempt must take the English Placement Test (EPT) and Entry Level Math (ELM) exams before they can attend mandatory orientation or register for classes at SJSU. Students must clear any remedial deficiencies in Math or English by the end of their first year. WST : Students are expected to take the Writing Skills Test (WST) as soon as possible after completing English 1B with a “C” or better grade and having junior level class standing. Students postponing these tests and the required courses they represent will not be able to graduate in a timely fashion. DRC staff will assist in facilitating appropriate accommodations for these tests. Please see a DRC advisor if you are experiencing problems with passing the WST to discuss your situation. Academic Accommodation : What's available to make the classroom accessible for students with disabilities?
