Academic AdvisementThe Disability Resource Center has one full-time Academic Advisor offering GE advisement. Students may also use the Student Advisement Center in Student Services Center. Students wishing academic advisement for general education, change of major or possible course substitutions must observe the following procedure: (NOTE: Medical or appropriate professional verification such as learning disabilities assessments are required before services can be provided.) In order to do accurate advisement, it is necessary to have copies of academic records. When seeking appointments for advisement, students must bring in copies of transcripts, grade reports, admissions checklists, and placement test results. Students inquiring about petitions to disregard test results and/or to approve course substitutions must make appointments far enough in advance of registration dates that records can be obtained and petitions can be processed in time for course selection. All major advisement must be provided by advisors in the major department. All business students must get advisement from the Business Student Advisement Center. DRC interfaces with faculty advisors and acts as a resource as needed. Student Expectations:
Assistance in choosing classes before semester Registration will be furnished; however, appointments must be made well in advance and records must be available to the advisor. Assistance with admission will be furnished and students are encouraged to meet with the advisor as early as possible to discuss application procedures. Graduation applications should be completed in the year before anticipated graduation. Appointments for graduation advisement should be made with this time frame in mind. Students requesting letters of recommendation, or memos to financial aid or faculty must allow at least one week (5 working days) for the advisor to write them, and must present requests in person during an advisement meeting.
